Big News for Colibri Arts

Sorry, I just couldn't hold it in any longer. After months of preparation and planning, it's actually happening: Colibri Arts will be getting a laser engraver in November 2017!

For years, I've been using acid paste to etch each and every piece of glassware. The process is very manual, and involves applying contact paper, and then hand-cutting stencils on each surface. While this process yields a lovely etching, it takes quite a bit of time, which means I can't produce pieces quickly enough to fulfill large, wholesale orders.

Because this method requires the firm application of contact paper to the glass, it's also limited my ability to work with spherical shapes (like wine glasses), because the sticker would bubble, ruining the crisp lines.

This is where the laser is going to change the game! I'll still be generating my original designs, but the process of etching will get a serious boost.

With the new equipment, not only will I be able to fulfill larger orders, I'll also be able to etch all kinds of new shapes. It'll even allow me to branch out to some new materials.... (stay tuned for more on this later). ;-)

Once the laser is in place, I'll start posting updates about my adventures with the new equipment. Lots of fun stuff ahead - thanks for following the journey!
