HOW DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO?
As of November 2017, Colibri Arts owns and operates a professional laser engraver! This amazing piece of technology allows me to translate my own original artwork into a file that I can pass to the laser. It makes it possible for me to fulfill large orders (something previously impractical), and custom order requests are a breeze! I do all the design work, and the machine does the engraving.
For very large pieces, I still utilize a more low-tech method, using an acid paste. It's a seven step process for each and every piece. It's a fun (albeit very manual) process, and I've been doing my artwork this way for over a decade. I've outlined the process in steps below.
1) Design - I draw all of my own designs, imagining what will add to the shape of the glassware I'm etching.
2) Prep - after ensuring the the glass surface is clean, I apply a piece of contact paper, which will become a custom stencil for the piece.
3) Transfer - I copy my design over to the prepared glassware, ensuring that the design is positioned correctly on the piece.
4) Cutting the Stencil - following the image design carefully, I use fine blades to cut out a detailed stencil, removing the sticker from the areas I wish to etch.
5) Etch - Now that the stencil is finished, and all of the correct areas are exposed, I apply an acid paste to the surfaces I wish to etch.
6) Wait - It usually takes about 5 minutes per piece, allowing the acid paste to etch evenly across the design surface.
7) Wash - once the acid has done its work, a thorough wash halts the etching process, and yields a finished, permanently etched piece of glassware!
Is the etching permanent?
Definitely! Etching is a method of permanently marking glass objects, leaving the modified surface slightly textured, and with a beautiful, frosty appearance. The finished pieces are even dishwasher and microwave safe. The images are permanently etched into the glass, and will never fade or lose their clarity.
Can you etch my artwork or images?
I'm not currently accepting custom orders, so I'm afraid not. If/when this changes, I'll be sure to update you! Until then, I'll be focusing on my own artwork and designs.

Because the weight and dimensions of our products can vary quite a bit, the shipping may change from one order to the next. The website has some standard shipping rates built in, but I'm always happy to quote your order personally, if you'd prefer. Just drop me an email, indicating what you're interested in, and where it's shipping. I'll shop around, and get back to you with the best shipping rate I can offer.
Colibri Arts ships through the United States Postal Service (USPS) and through UPS (large or expedited orders). For orders shipping with UPS service, you must provide a physical address—no PO boxes for UPS packages.
Colibri Arts does not guarantee same-day shipping. Unless otherwise specified, I will do my best to find the most cost-effective and appropriate shipping method for the items that you have ordered. If you require immediate assistance with the shipment of your order, please call me at (360) 731-9243, and I'll be glad to provide shipping options and timelines for you.
For those of you local to the Olympia area, I'm also happy to arrange pickups from my workshop in East Olympia! Just get in touch, and we'll figure out a good time. :) (You can select this as a shipping option at checkout, at zero cost.)
Tracking your order
Once your order has been shipped, you'll be notified via email. If there is an applicable tracking number, I'll include that with the notice, so that you can follow its journey to you! If you ever have questions about the status of your order, please call or email, and I'll be happy to provide you with an update.
If for some reason you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, please let me know! I want satisfied customers, so I welcome your feedback, and will work with you to correct any orders that require attention.
Damaged/Defective Products: Colibri Arts will replace damaged/defective products, providing that the claim is requested within 48 hours of receipt. Please include as much detail as possible when initiating our claim, such as item, order number, and the apparent damage or defect. Where possible, please include photographs of both the product(s) and the packaging. (This may be necessary, if it is found that the damage was caused in transit, as it will be required for a claim with the shipping carrier.)
General Returns: If you wish to return your order for reasons other than damage or defect, please review the following guidelines. Returns should be communicated to Colibri Arts, prior to the products being shipped back. When requesting a return, please provide your contact information, as well as your order number, and the product(s) being returned. Once you have shipped the item(s) back, they will be inspected for damage. If they are found to be in like-new condition, you will receive a refund for the retail cost of your products only - shipping is not included in standard refunds.
